About CENA

The College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (CENA) is the peak professional association representing emergency nurses. There are large numbers of nurses working in emergency and many more in circumstances which see them providing emergency care to patients outside of emergency departments. This includes nurses working in small regional and rural hospitals, health care centres and flight nurses. CENA represents a total of approximately 1200 nurses nationally and internationally.

Full Membership is open to all registered nurses and enrolled nurses. Associate Membership is available to medical and paramedical professional.

ICEN 2016

International Conference for Emergency Nurses (ICEN) to be held from the 19th to the 21st of October 2016. The conference is being held in Alice Springs marking the first time ICEN has been held in the Northern Territory and in a rural location.

Our theme “Emergency Care: Expanding the Horizon” aims to explore the innovation, adaptation and perseverance of delivering emergency care in challenging environments. The ICEN 2016 subthemes include:

  • Access and delivery of emergency care in austere, rural and remote areas;
  • Innovative models of emergency care delivery;
  • Patient focused care delivery in vulnerable population groups.

ICEN 2016 will also have a strong social program intended to bring colleagues and friends together to share in the beauty of outback Northern Territory. The conference one million star dinner will be the main feature of the social program giving delegates a very unique experience in Alice Springs.

CENA Strategic Plan

The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the launch of the inaugural strategic plan for the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia. This plan was developed during 2014 and 2015 based on the engagement of an independent consultant, considered discussion of the Board, and consultation with some College Fellows and Members. This document outlines many of the desirable outcomes and associated activities that the College will pursue to maintain its alignment with the historical vision and purpose of the College. The document, is a contemporary framework to focus the efforts of the Board, while still providing space for flexibility to pursue opportunities relating to vision.

The CENA Affiliation Program establishes formal links with other emergency nursing and health care organisations to foster relationships that facilitate and enhance the aims and objectives of each organisation.

ACN is a key national professional nursing organisation with a focus on nursing leadership and is open to nurses in all settings and at every stage of their career.
The Australian Resuscitation Council is a voluntary co-ordinating body which represents all major groups involved in the teaching and practice of resuscitation.
